2022 INTERVIEW

[Interview ①] 'Red Sleeve' Lee Se-young "When I think of the ending, I still cry."

Actress Lee Se-young recalled the ending of 'The Red Sleeves'.

On the afternoon of the 4th, Lee Se-young met with Sports Chosun online and conducted an interview at the end of the MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'The Red Sleeve' (written by Jung Hae-ri, directed byJung Ji-in & Song Yeon-hwa).

Lee Se-young said, "After 7 months of summer, autumn, and winter, many actors and staff filmed at that time, if it was long and short it was a happy year because we gave great love and interest until the end and seemed to have achieved a successful ending. So I said, "Thank you so much."

Lee Se-young, who had a lot of over-immerse in viewers, is still enjoying the afterglow. She said, "When I think of lines and situations, I still cry, but I don't think I'll be able to take out the lingering feelings for a while, but when I meet new works and meet new characters, I think it'll naturally be forgotten," adding, "I think it takes a little time to get out of it." However, I suffered a lot, and as I spent the summer and winter severely, I became a little closer and received a lot of love, so I think such feelings of darkness and sadness will last for a long time. "The ending scene of the final episode has been selected well, so I think the lingering effect will last longer," he said.

The lingering feeling of the ending scene became a tear button for both viewers and Lee Se-young. The line "Moment soon became eternity" was also the reason for Lee Se-young's appearance. When I saw the synopsis, Lee Se-young said, "When I saw the synopsis, it started with 'The King Loved the Court Lady, Did the Court Lady Loved the King?' I felt like I was spaced out as if I had been hit in the head. No one was interested and even I didn't think, but what did the court lady think at that time? What did they have to endure and what could they choose? What was it like for Ui-bin Seong to choose and live the life she wanted to protect even a little? After that, when I decided to appear and read the original, I was curious about how the script would come out until the end especially the ending part that the moment soon became eternity. I saw it after I made my decision, and I was very happy. I thought it would be nice if the drama proceeded like this. I was sure after the poster. "That's how it's going to go."

The final episode made me shed a lot of tears. Lee Se-young said, "I think the last ending scene was definitely the saddest. The line, "Love me. Please love me," was sad and broke up with Younghee. Younghee said, "Go ahead and go." "Go back, Deok-im," it was very sad. I met Kyung-hee and Bok-yeon and said, "Don't cut in!" But it eventually broke, and I think those lines were sad. Before she died with Seo Sang-gung Mama-nim she said, "Mama-nim is a strong person, so you will be fine," and "Your Highness will be okay," and things like that. "Didn't you care about me at all?" Those words are memorable, and I think I worked hard for those scenes from the beginning. I was glad that part came out in the script, and I thought it would flow as it was when I saw the poster saying, "The moment soon became eternity"

"The Red Sleeve" was the most popular work on MBC last year. The work, which started with 5.7%, set an all-time record of 17.4% (Nielson Korea's national standard), and maintained its popularity in the drama by maintaining its No. 1 position in the popularity index. In a work containing the sad court romance record of the king, where he choose the country before love, and the court lady who wants to protect the life she has chosen, Lee Se-young was praised for wisely portraying her relationship with Jeongjo (Lee Jun-ho) as court lady Seong Deok-im and female narratives with court ladies.

[Interview 2] "The Red Sleeve" by Lee Seyoung. "Strong determined Seong Deok-im.. gained 7kg in the second half, expressing her eyes".

Actor Lee Se-young mentioned the process of meeting Seong-deok-im.

Lee Se-young received favorable reviews for fully expressing her success in "The Red Sleeve " Recalling the moment when she acted as Seong Deok-im, she said, "I focus of acting ahead than the messages (drama) in my previous works, but the "The Red Sleeve' was a little different. We focused on how small and insignificant characters flow, not cool and great people,  who vowed to "devote all my life to protect the crown prince until the day he ascends the throne" and her goal was strong, fearful and courageous was attractive."

When asked if Lee Se-young got reference from the works that dealt with the reign of Jeongjo, Lee Se-young said, "I came across to 'Yi san' or a movie, but I didn't see 'Yi san' (drama), and I watched about two clips of how it was expressed. However, the original work was too clear and flowed in a different direction, so I did not refer to it and tried to stick to the original work. There is no particular difference from the original, but if there is a difference, in the drama, Jeongjo is a little more attractive and viewers have to watch it until the end. So, I tried to make it by melting the feelings of longing that would only come out a little later.”

She then said, "For other characters, the characters I want to do, usually live a normal life and become heroes at some point,  become very strong and small, but there seem to be moments when they look big." When you have a goal. Rather, in the case of Deok-im, she lives as a humble court lady, but the conflict she experiences little by little arises where she has to trade for what she can choose. And I tried to portray a little smaller and insignificant person in a heartbreaking part. To prepare for the second half," she explained.

In particular, she practiced calligraphy herself and read the records of King Jeongjo and Uibin. Lee Se-young said, "I looked up to Jeongjo's written epitaph, and the videos that dealt about love stories or the parts in the Annals. I also read things about how the court ladies' lives were. I practiced calligraphy because I was a court lady who wrote well," she said.

As the second half went on, the life of Seong Deok-im was enough to make viewers cry. Lee Se-young, who expressed Deok-im living in a palace, drew a change just with her eyes, which was praised by viewers. Lee Se-young said, "Deok-im seems to have become a court lady who writes well. In fact, Uibin's handwriting is left in a copy of Tale of Gwak and Jang, she seems to have become a court lady who writes well. She doesn't seem to have lived the simple and trivial life she wanted. She didn't live according to her wishes by unintentionally involved in a big accident, but I think she was happy for a short time between what she exchanged. I achieved my professional dream, but I wasn't happy with the direction of life, she said. "I wonder if my face in the second half started aging on its own over time (laughs) I'm very weak in summer, so I succeeded in winter. I gained about 7kg and weighed differently from the beginning. Nevertheless, losing everything, limbs, and disappearing what that be done. "As in the lines, I tried to think about what I lose and what I gained from coming here, and express emptiness, loneliness, and sorrow in my eyes that are not expressed in the lines," she explained.

[Interview 3] "The Red Sleeve" by Lee Seyoung. "Lee Junho = Best Partner.." There were more scenes in the script".

Actor Lee Se-young mentioned romantic chemistry with Lee Jun-ho, who won the Best Couple Award.

Regarding Lee Jun-ho, who worked together, Lee Se-young said, "He is the best partner. In all actors, I have the most scenes with him, and having the most screen time. By filming like that, he was the closest, most friendly, and communicated well, and his personality itself was friendly and kind, so it was very smooth when we communicate, and I think we were able to discuss this and that comfortably while filming. The teamwork was perfect, I was happy to act with him, and a trusted actor since the beginning" she praised him.

The romance acting chemistry was also good. They also won the Best Couple Award at last year's Drama Awards. The two especially excite viewers with various melodramatic scenes. When asked about the most exciting scene, Lee Se-young said, "In fact, I answered the bathtub scene on Twitter Blueroom, but there was no scene that actually made my heart race." The scene was an important scene to raise interest, and I thought I would fall in love with the charm of Jeongjo Lee San, Junho. There is a very sexy feeling in the original, but I was confident that they would have liked this part very much because the drama revealed a more affectionate, more energetic, and sexy part, so I mentioned the scene. But in reality, I wasn't able to see much because I was a little shy. I probably didn't see it more than the viewers" she confessed drawing laughter.

However, Lee Se-young's interpretation is that the relationship between Lee San and Deok-im in the play has developed rapidly since this scene. Lee Se-young said, "I think I came to see him as a man after the bathtub scene and it was an opportunity to move from loyalty to love." I think I was caught up in an incident and jumped into it on my own, and I started to care little by little every time I said I would protect the him. What peaked on it was that I thought my feelings grew after going through a series of events at Haenggung Palace, and in the scene where we ran and hugged, I thought the two had already loved each other. In the 12th episode, I spoke with Seo Sang-gung and said, "His Highness is dear, but myself is dearer." Even when I said, "I want to protect him," I thought I was in a situation where I was I was in love him without being able to realize it myself. "At the ending of the 15th episode, i grabbed the hem of his clothes because my hidden feelings burst out without realizing it" she said.

The scene where I was especially excited about the romantic chemistry between the two actors was the "Sleeping Together" scene. Lee Se-young and Lee Jun-ho appeared in "Noon Song of Hope" and said, "The Rated-19 may rise for a while," but viewers shouted, "Where the hell is the Rated-19?" Lee Se-young said, "At that time, I thought it was rated-19. "I went too far in hopes that many people would watch it," she said, drawing laughter. Lee Se-young then said, "In the original script, there is a scene where San takes off her innerskirt and kisses on the 明-tattoo on Deok-im's shoulder, and  turned around because Deok-im was shy, and they kissed again. "It could be too much, so I think a scene with good tension was created because the director gave a caressing on the face and a kiss in the morning," she said.

In addition to chemistry, the ending continued, and viewers continued to wish for "filming reincarnation romance." Lee Se-young said, "It's not something I control" but added expectations to the teamwork of the two actors by saying, "If you make it right away, I will appear."

[Interview 4] Lee Seyoung, "Changing view of life with The Red Sleeve.. Self-reflection".

Actress Lee Se-young recalled the changes through "The Red Sleeve."

Regarding the success of Lee Se-young in "The Red Sleeve," she said, "I'm just a court lady, but if it were in the past, I'd really die, but I think I need to improve the arrogant parts." Perhaps what I could express like that was possible because I treated him as a man and a woman in the drama, and I think there is something to emulate in that I want to live independently and choose to live in even though I am a woman in the 18th century. I'm living in freedom in modern times, but I came to think about whether I'm choosing and living the things I can choose within it."

She then said, "My view of life has changed little by little through the The Red Sleeve. I agree that Deok-im and I want to live a thin and long life. Even though she was a woman in the 18th century of the Joseon Dynasty, Deok-im wants to live by making choices in her small life, I am actively doing my work with pride, but I am not living as an actor myself, but as a human being, Lee Se-young, with making choices.  It made me reflect on whether I am living well, feeling small happiness in every moment. I thought I should have more fun and live a happy life,” she said.

There have also been changes in her 30s. Lee Se-young said, "When I was young, I think I had some ups and downs, sad, or overreacted in my mid to late 20s." However, by the age of 28, people themselves began to become a little simpler. Everyone has a story and everyone has a hard time, but the power to continue living is laughter and joy. Let's find something interesting. We should set on a motto of my life to have more fun. Personally, I'm not sad, and there has been no change. The change of thinking seems to have been positive," she said.

At the end of last year's Drama award, Lee Se-young, a child roles turned into actresses, Park Eun-bin, Kim Yoo-jung, and Kim So-hyun all made headlines for winning the best award. The awards of those who always had concerns about adult acting surprised many viewers. Lee Se-young said, "In fact, the judge's gaze is likely to be forever, even if I'm not a child actor. If I recieve a negative view of something, I try not to be swayed by it. I don't know if this will change. Thank you for saying that I became a trust treasure, and I think my goal as an actor is to be an actor who trusts and watches viewers. It has also been my goal since I became an adult," she said.

Lastly, Lee Se-young said, "In 2021, I always order delivery food, I have a goal to live happier by taking care of my meals in a healthier way, she said expecting 2022.

"Simple and long like Deok-Im..." Lee Se-young revealed "The Red Sleeves" from the start, 'sleeping together' to its ending [Interview S]

The lingering feeling of MBC's Friday-Saturday drama "The Red Sleeve" (written by Jung Hae-ri, Directed by Jung Ji-in), which ended on the 1st, still lingers. The love story between the king and the court lady based on the romance of King Jeongjo and Uibin Seong was the hottest and most popular drama at the beginning of the year. The ratings, which started at 5.4% and ended at 17.4 % (based on Nielsen Korea nationwide). Only at the last minute did the beautiful and mournful couple meet each other again and repeat, "The moment soon became eternity," and the new term "Sappy Ending" combined with "Sad ending" and "Happy ending" came out.

Lee Se-young (30), who has lived as a court lady Deok-im and as Uibin Seong  for the past 7 months, is the main character of this hot popularity. Lee Junho, who plays Lee San, captivated viewers with his affectionate and desperate romance. At the same time, with a stable acting like a "Historical Drama Queen", she differentiated the characters from the play by expressing an image of a woman's "choice" by repeated thinking of the king's love.

Lee Se-young had already finished filming 15 days ago, but the line "You still don't know? If I'm not willing, I would have run away at all costs". In the end, I memorized the line of Deok-im, saying, "It was my choice to remain by your highness' side," without making a mistake. Lee Se-young, who said she couldn't hold back her tears and filmed the last scene, said, "I try not to force myself to forget but to feel it. I think it'll last a long time," she confessed. This was the story of "The Red Sleeve" I shared with her.

"The Red Sleeve" ended in trend and received love.

"I've been filming for 7 months, and I'm happy to receive so much love. I was happy and grateful to finish it until the end. At first, I didn't know, but as I traveled around various regions to shoot, there were more and more people watching. I was happy."

Lee Se-young was loved also called the "Historical Drama Queen" . She has performed well in various historical dramas.

"It's a too much praise. If I do a historical drama in the future, I think will feel a little pressured. Now I'm just happy and grateful for the words.

It seems that it is not because it is a historical drama, but because it is a preferred character and a preferred work. Thanks to their great love through this work, so I thought that if I do another historical drama next time, I will have to work hard to show a better side of me. I actually don't know my own strengths. This work was excellent even the original, there was no less interesting script in that, and there were great actors and great seniors. I think it's because the acting chemistry is good and the chemistry is good."

It became an MBC drama that surpassed double digits viewership ratings in the past 2 years. Did you expect success?

"In fact, I thought the 15% promise was 'I won't fulfill my promise' and 'I don't want to do it.' So she said she would reappear on the radio "Noon Song of Hope " if it exceeded 10%, so i appeared, and I'm so grateful that it surpassed 15%. Of course, you have to fulfill your promise.(Lee Se-young made a promise to sing "Jinttobaegi," and Lee Joon-ho made a pledge to reappear on "Radio Star" and dance to "My House" in a royal robe outfit.) I think of the "Jinttobaegi" as a promise was a light rash remark that broke the lingering feeling of the drama. I reflected on myself. I'm very sorry. I'll compromise a little and prepare for the stage in an elegant costume to match the lyrics of "My House."

You also received the Excellence Award and the Best Couple Award at the 2021 MBC Drama Awards.

"I didn't think I'd get it. In fact, I was a little greedy for the Best Couple Award, but I didn't know only one team would be awarded. Since the first video came out, I thought they were showing candidates. But I was so happy that we received it alone. It was a romance historical drama, so it had a unique meaning."

The support for San and Deok-im, the so-called SanDeok couple was trended. Calling him "Wang Oppa" was also impressive.

"Romance chemistry seems to be loved when the male protagonist is cool and loveable. I would like to thank Lee Junho for portraying a cool and attractive character so well. He was such a good actor and was an actor I always trusted."

I think it's because of Lee Junho, who played the role of a cool king who was a total manly. You can do your job well, but the synergy is doubled as people are friendly and get along without a sense of distance and become close. After receiving the Best Couple Award, I called him "Wang Oppa" because I was so excited that I missed Junho's comment while talking in a hurry. I couldn't think of anything, so I said, "It's all thanks to Wang Oppa."

The ending with the narration, "The moment soon become eternity" was touching. There was also a new teram, "Sappy ending (Sad + Happy ending)." How was it when you were acting?

"This narration is also in the original work. When I saw that part, I felt like it hit my head. The tears didn't stop falling. Isn't it a reality that they broke up forever and met in their dreams and will never returned? It was so sad and nice to see they meet. I think the word "sappy ending" is right. "I tried to laugh, but I was so sad while filming Junho so I couldn't stop crying in rehearsals."

It's been about 15 days since the shoot ended. Is it still lingering?

"I feel like I'm out, and I wonder why I'm resting when I have to work." I don't think it's over. If I enter the next work, I will forget it quickly, but I try not to force myself to forget it and feel it more. I think the feeling is going to linger for quite while."

Why did you decide to appear?

"When I saw the story in the synopsis, 'The king loved the court lady, but did the court lady love the king?' I wondered, 'I've never thought of that.' I read the script and the original. The lingering effect from the original work was great. No one was curious about the story of the court lady, but I really want to make a drama from the court lady's point of view."

In the second half, "The king loved the court lady, did the court lady love the king," stood out more. What did you think about Deok-im when you acted?

"I didn't express the feeling that the court lady didn't love the king. It wasn't clear, but I thought, "Deok-im has been falling to Lee San." However, I tried to express pain, loneliness, and sadness because of the realistic parts.

In fact, I'm attracted to characters who are more active and fight to get something. This work seems to have tried a lot to show the love story of a weak and insignificant woman and a child who doesn't have much."

What kind of answer do you think the drama gave if the original work gave you the answer that "The court lady did not love the king?"

"There are few parts in the script that come out in words. "Do you still not know? If I didn't want to, I would have run away at all costs.  In the end, don't you know that it was my choice to remain by you side your highness?" Until then, it was not revealed much because viewers did not know and had to be curious. Since it was romance, I set the opportunity to love this person and filmed it. 'I loved you, I loved you, but I lost a lot due to it. I tried to express that I wasn't happy."

Since it was romance, when we filmed it I set the opportunity to love this person. "I loved you, I have loved you, but I lost a lot due to it. I tried to express that I wasn't happy and was trying to."

At some point, did you put a point in acting, thinking that your mind has changed?

"If it's a moment when I fell in love, I think it  happened little by little. If the ending of the episode 5 to the rebellion of Haenggung and the Gwanghang Palace, the relationship became stronger and the deepening of emotions increased. And at the moment I grabbed the sleeve of his clothes was the feelings that came out without even realizing it. I couldn't hide it. The time I saw San as a man was when I saw his naked body in the bathtub scene at the end of episode 6. I think it eventually grow in the process of saving each other several times."

I heard that writer Jung Hae-ri paid attention to directly investigate "Classic of Poetry." Whether the data or records helped the acting.

"The preparation period for Jung Hae-ri was very long. It was thorough as she prepared. I thought about the court lady's daily life at that time and what parts were not in the script and read books. I also looked to many video clips because there are stories of Ui-bin and Jeongjo, "Ui-bin's epitaph" (written by King Jeongjo in sorrow of the death of Ui-bin Seong), and "Tale of Kwak and Jang" (a novel copied by Ui-bin with other court ladies such as Yeong-hee, Kyung-hee, and Bok-yeon)."

What is the actual synchronization between Lee Se-young and Deok-im?

"There must be differences and similarities, but what they have in common is that they want to live their lives simple and long." Wanting to live life freely. It seems that they want to live independently even though Deok-im is in that era. I also learned and felt a lot. I thought a lot that I should live independently. The difference is that I think I have more than Deok-im. I thought I lived without being grateful even though I had a lot of room to choose.

As for the lively and bright Deok-im in the early episodes, the synchronization rate is about 90 percent.

Active and independent Deok-im feel different from previous female characters in historical dramas. Where did you focus on acting?

"I'm independent, but I want to live a long and simple life without being involved in a difficult situations. I am a child who wants to live a simple life, and there is a sense of helplessness that there is not much I can do. I tried to act a little more insignificant and small, so that I could be sadder later. In the beginning, I tried to draw a dynamic scene where life is fun and happy. There have been women who have wanted to be important, but I don't think there have been women who want to live thin and simple. In that way, I think it is meaningful to discover more about Uibin. She seems to be a simple, proud, active, and independent person."

Which of the many impressive scenes do you want to pick as a famous scene?

There are so many, but personally, it is the ending scene that lingers for a long time. Reunite with Deok-im in San's dream and fantasy. The appearance of His Highness who entirely go to Deok-im as a man and set aside his political affairs. It was sad and beautiful because it didn't come true. The rainbow that was cast at that time was not CG. It was because of the filter reflection, but I also thought, "This is how you cross the rainbow bridge." It was dazzlingly beautiful and sad.

There are additional cuts at the scene, which are scenes of parting with court ladies' friends and parting with her younger self.. It wasn't in the script, but I couldn't stop crying when I heard from the director that she was trying to add and shoot this scene. She was a god who directly expressed emotions. So it was good."

The actual existence of the "Gungnyeos / Court Ladies" were also special.

"Even after the work is over, they are still like 'court ladies'. It's not 3, but 4, so it's a relief to meet them as peers. They are all good people like jewels. The relationship is so precious that I hope it will continue. I would like to meet after 3 to 4 weeks to create a climbing club. They are precious colleagues and family-like beings. Not only climbing, but also swimming and horseback riding, I suggested that we should try it."

From the last consecutive broadcast, it says "19-rated." There was also a response that it was smaller than expected.

"The filming atmosphere was absolutely great. The good atmosphere was overheated. The scene was really hot. Everyone was so nice that I was able to cheer up and film diligently. The scene of "Hot X-rated" was a comment to raise interest and expectations. In a historical drama, I thought it would be a high tension of wearing a hanbok in a "sleeping together" scene.

"In the original script, there is a scene where San kisses Deok-im's tattoo, loosening the ribbon and taking off the innerskirt. During the shoot, the kiss scene before that is beautiful enough, and I don't think we need to show it anymore. After that, the scene where morning came and Deok-im was watching as San wakes up and kiss again. I'm sorry for the fans who are disappointed, but I think it came out well.

When you look at "The Red Sleeve" doesn't it remind you of playing the role in "Daejanggeum" when you were a kid? (Lee Se-young played Hong Rina's child role in 2003)

"The clothes are similar, too. The pink jeogori color, too. I don't remember it well. It reminds me of the line like "He's a nobleman and I'm a court lady.(Laughs)"

It has already been 25 years since the debut in 1997. Is there any regret that you decided on a career path when you were young? Do you also think that life as an actor, starting as a child actor, would have made you sympathize more with the Deok-im of living in the palace from an early age.

"I don't have any regrets. If you feel like you have something you want to do, you can try it at any age. I decided on my career faster than my peers. I'm grateful that I quickly discovered what I can do well, not having unusual skills or talents. If I have another dream, I want to challenge. However, I want to continue acting for the rest of my life.

Actually, I sympathized a lot. Although I have been steadily taking steps since childhood, it is important that Deok-im should continue to live. It is also important to have a high goal and dream, but you have to keep going to get it. There is a desire to do one thing for a long time and do it well. I actually sympathized with it a lot while filming it.”

If you have any principles as an actor.

"I have no other principles. I just want to act well.  don't know how long I will be in the lead role, but I feel responsible and have to do more than just pay for my meals. I don't think it's impossible. When I look at the seniors, they encompass not only themselves but also their surroundings a lot. I don't think I should only do mine. I want to be an actor who is good at acting and doing her main job well. I want to be a trusted actor. Listening to the interesting stories that comes out in the work."

What kind of work will "The Red Sleeve" be for Lee Se-young?

"I received a lot of warm love. There is no response every time. Nevertheless, I think there has been a big explosive reaction. There is something special about it. If I do my next work again, I will go back to the starting point, but it will remain a happy memory. This work is like a gift. I don't think I can get such as this gift every time. I will work with the mindset that if I work hard I will be able to get it again someday. I hope you remember it as a heartbreaking love story between the king and the court lady. It's a work that lingers whenever "The moment soon becomes eternity" comes to my mind.

'The Red Sleeve' Lee Se-young, affectionate and precious [Interview Q]

"I think it will be remembered for a long time. I expected it to be sad and watched the broadcast, but it was much sadder than I saw in the script. It left a lot of lingering feelings and the ending part went in the same direction as the original, but I think it will last for a long time. I cried a lot," she confessed.

"The Red Sleeves" recorded 17.4% viewership in the final episode, breaking its own highest ratings, 3x higher than the first (5.7%). Regarding the high ratings and topics, Lee Se-young thanked, "Until just before the second half of the episodes, I couldn't see the actual show, and I couldn't check the response, but there was a synergy that I heard good news when everyone was tired in the second half. There was also a memorable viewer reaction"

"In the second half, actress Kang Mal-geum as Lady Hyegyeong told Jeongjo to be happy, and I heard that there was a parody of it and said, 'SanDeok, be happy.' It was both salty and fun because it seemed like she said that in anticipation of the upcoming ending.”"

◆ "I wanted to convey all the lingering feelings of the original work."

In "The Red Sleeve," Lee Se-young played the role of Seong Deok-im, a court lady who wanted to protect the life she had chosen, not just one of the countless women of the king. Lee Se-young, who expressed independently and active Deok-im with high-quality emotional control acting, said, "The king loved the court lady, but did the court lady love the king?" is the theme that penetrates the drama. I keep finding the answer, but it shouldn't have been revealed too much in the process or hidden too tightly. "That was the hardest part," she confessed.

"I've always wanted to portrayed a character who's struggling to solve a case independently, even if it's possible or not. This time, there was not much I could do because there was a clear difference in status, but I tried hard to express what I could do within the limitations. In order to do that, I thought about what I had to give up, and I think the script showed a lot of time spent with precious people and longing for freedom. In the beginning, I tried to portray a bright and lively person."

When asked if there is any similarity with Deok-im, Lee Se-young said, "I think Deok-im is much more independent and active. The only part I become active is when I work. Except work, I reluctantly move and barely eat, so it's amazing to work. I'm going to learn from Deok-im and live my life a little more precious and diligently this year," she replied.

The 16th episode, which shows Ui-bin looking at Deok-im going out with the court ladies, received high praise from viewers for showing the core feeling of Deok-im letting go of freedom and choosing love. It was not in the script, but it became more of a hot topic after it was revealed that it was added at the scene.

Lee Se-young said, "There was a scene in the script where court ladies' friends came out to meet and say hello and parted, but the appearance of a free Deok-im running in the field was added. When I heard from the director that she would add that part, I was sad just thinking about it, so I said, "Oh, I love it, it so sad." We filmed it. "The staff also wiped their tears, and even though they tried to greet and laugh with free Deok-im, I cried," she recalled.

The ending scene, which previously said, "the reason for doing the work itself'," brought tears to Lee Se-young's eyes. She said, "I already enjoyed the original work so much and filmed it with lingering feelings. When I filmed the latter part, even just the rehearsal and the script made me cry.

I shouldn't cry, but it was hard for me to not cry at the sad parts that people watched. There were many scenes without lines. In addition, I don't know if they know Deok-im, but there was no expression given. "I had to decide on my own, but I was worried that viewers would recognize the slight difference," she said.

Throughout the interview, Lee Se-young generously expressed her affection for the original and the drama. She said, "When I read the original work, I wanted viewers to feel the gloomy and indescribable lingering feeling. I cried a lot after reading the book. I wanted to convey it as it is, so I focused on building up my emotions from the beginning. I personally think it's going to last a long time because it's so artistic," she said with a smile.

"The court lady of the Joseon Dynasty named Deok-im who wants to make choices and longs for freedom in the midst of her own limitations. I am in a better situation than that, and I wonder, 'Am I making choices and living independently?' It’s an environment where everyone can achieve it, but I’ve been able to reflect on myself whether I’m enjoying life and living gratefully. I'm even more thankful. In 2022, my goal is to take care of myself a little more and live happily every moment of my life. I'll achieve it step by step in the future."

◆ "2021 was the year I worked hard and received more love".

Lee Se-young, who made her debut as a child in 1997, has become a 26-year-old actor this year. Lee Se-young said, "I feel it when I feel the age difference between the staff and the production crew with me. In the past, there was a long age difference from the makeup artists, unnie, oppa, and staffs but when I think about it, they were all in their late 20s. When I go to the industry these days, most of them are younger than me and have little experience. There are times when I realize that I've been doing this for a long time," she said.

"While acting for a long time, I also had a time of deep concern. Lee Se-young said, "When i was about to turn 20. I set aside from the industry and focused on my studies for a while, I was worried about whether it would be okay to continue this job. The reason why I was able to continue was because I thought, I should just focus well and be upright.  In my mid-20s, I didn't have much work to do, so I thought about survival. I think it's still a concern that can come out any time. I'm still thinking about how to make a living," she confessed.

"What drives you to act without a break?" It's a living. I was able to work harder because it was work. It's proof of value. In order to move forward in a competitive society, I must have my own competitiveness and I think I should work harder than others because I don't have much. Those who are good at it are great, but I think those who stay and remain there are really great. I'd like to praise myself for being on a steady path, just as ducks struggle in the water even if they seem to be stationary."

When I asked Lee Se-young if she wanted to challenge anything other than acting, she mentioned sports entertainment and radio. She said, "There is no concept or character except when acting. It doesn't feel like a challenge (to entertainment) because I'm showing it as it is," she replied honestly.

"I'm also interested in soccer. I really likes to watch it. When I look at soccer players, even if they are too good, they lose their skills if they don't play well. It's good for actors to meet good works, but I realized a lot that they have to go out to the field and play to maintain their skills. I always greedy when it comes to radio. I dream of becoming a DJ someday, communicating, talking, and comforting my heart." she said.

Finally, I asked Lee Se-young how she wanted to remember the past 2021 when she was warmly loved, and if there was anything she wanted to do in 2022. Lee Se-young said, "2021 was the year when I worked hard and was loved more than that. I didn't even know how it went, but every moment passed like a bullet. I wasn't able to look back on myself. I'm sad that I can't enjoy and reflect on every moment. I hope 2022 will be a year where I can look back on myself a little more in my daily life and think a lot for myself in a little healthier way. I want to meet you again in a new work," she said with a smile.

I don't think I've been able to say thank you to the viewers much in my acceptance speech (Excellence Award). In particular, viewers said that this work is "Nano-viewed." I think the love of the viewers who carefully analyzed and informed me of the work was great. From the standpoint of being chosen, I was very grateful that our drama was chosen."

Lee Se-young said, "I worked hard with the production team for three seasons, a total of seven months. We were grateful to the viewers for giving us so much love and we were able to cheer up and finish happily until the end while watching the reaction while filming. I thought I was filming for a long time, but when it ended, I felt sad. Recently, I've been thinking a lot about the love I've received and how happy I was with it" she said.

(YTN Interview]

As for achieving the target viewership rating of 15%, "It's really like a dream. Thank you so much and I am happy." In addition, regarding the fact that "The Red Sleeve" won 8 award, she said, "I'm happy, but there are numerous works too that shine MBC, and I felt sorry to other actors because "The Red Sleeve" seemed to have received awards. However, I am so grateful that we received many awards because of the interest of viewers, she said.

When sked if there was any pressure to play the same role as Han Ji-min, the drama "Yi San," which deals with the same character and subject, she said, "There was no pressure because the direction of our drama was different. I wasn't able to watch it at the time of airing, but I watched some clips on YouTube while preparing for the drama."

In addition, regarding the pressure of the lead role, she said, "I didn't feel pressure because of the previous works I did in the past. I think I've just been running purely thinking about "The Red Sleeve", I always think about what I need to pay attention and film."

Having appeared in various historical drama works ranging from "The Crowned Clown" to "The Red Sleeve,"

receiving a title "Historical Drama Goddess" as a charm of historical dramas, she said "the color varied and is very beautiful". In addition, she said, "I think there were a lot of viewers who liked political stories, so I think the response to 'The Red Sleeves' was good. Our drama had a good script, and the director led it well."

Finally, Lee Se-young said about her goal for 2022 after a successful 2021 year, "My goal for the new year is to eat well, work hard when I work, and rest well when I rest." She said, "I don't know if I'm mentally weak or if I'm stressed that i can't eat well. I try to eat well, polish my body to be healthy. I think I need to develop my stamina. When I'm healthy, I think I can give healthy energy to others. My personal goal is to become a healthy person myself," she said.

Also, as an actor, she said "A duck swimming a lot in the water, even if she move gracefully outside, she have to struggle a lot in the water. "My goal for the new year as an actor is to show you a little better and different side of me."

Lee Se-young also said that the Hapbang scene was different from the script, adding, "Originally, there was a scene where I was kissed in the body, revealing a little bit of my inner skin. The director decided that it is q beautiful scene alreadt even without that. "As for the result, I liked it so much."

The best romance scene with Lee Jun-ho, who plays the role of King Jeongjo in the drama, was "The scene where San came to the annex." Lee Se-young said, "I think the scene where Lee San said, 'Will you going to say no again today?,' and 'Will you let me go if I'm going to say no?' was sweet. The line that impress me was in a scene where he entered the room and said, 'Today, we will sleep in holding hands'.

After Deok-im became a concubine, the romance of the "SanDeok" couple did not last long. Regarding the happy moments of the two, which ended within one episode, Lee Se-young expressed her feelings, saying, "I have a lot of regrets."

She said, "Rather, it seems like it's so short that it lingers even after the drama is over and seems to last for a long time. I thought the sweet part would come out more than once, but it was very short. I think it was a little tight to deal with that part," she said.

(The final episode made me shed a lot of tears. Lee Se-young said, "I think the last ending scene was definitely the saddest. The line, "Love me. Please love me,")

The filming directors said, "As I filmed this scene, I kept crying, so there were jokes that I had to shoot with a towel in the camera"  Director Jung Ji-in also sobbed while filming the last scene and said, 'Cut~'. I remember there was a tissue on the monitor of Director Jung at that time. (https://m.hankookilbo.com/News/Read/A2022010416500001487?did=NA)

Lee Se-young, who had an interview with YTN Star on the 4th, revealed her secret to her extraordinary chemistry with Lee Jun-ho.

Lee Se-young said, "When I acted with Lee Jun-ho, we tried to match each other even if we didn't speaking out loud and our teamwork was very good," adding, "I couldn't stand summer, so I purposely raised the tension during filming. As a result, I think I was able to get closer to Lee Jun-ho more quickly," she said.

Regarding Lee Ju-ho's charm, she explained, "If in 'My House' Junho has a big and sexy charm as a man, I think his charm has doubled because Junho as Jeongjo is more serious, sincere, and hard-working."

She added, "While we were filming together, I thought that he was an attractive actor."

When asked if she wanted to work with Lee Joon-ho again, she said, "It would be so nice to meet him again in a modern drama," adding, "I promised on the radio that I would do a modern drama together if we've given a chance."

When asked if she expected to win 2 awards in the Female Excellence Award and Best Couple Award in the mini-series category at the 2021 MBC Acting Awards, Lee Se-young said, "I didn't know that would happen. I thought this drama would be loved, and I would be so grateful that I received Female Excellence Award as an actor, but I didn't want to be greedy because such opportunities didn't come much, so I wanted to receive the Best Couple Award. Since it was a romance chemistry, I thought it would be worth looking for, and I was so happy to receive it. The entire drama received a lot of awards, and I and Lee Junho received the Best Couple Award. I couldn't tell you on air, but I'm grateful to the original author. I'm grateful to the staff who worked hard behind the camera," she said.

"The Red Sleeve" left a lingering impression on Jeongjo's ending as he dreams of meeting Deok-im. In her interpretation of this, Lee Se-young said, "I met Jeongjo in his dream when he fell asleep, and I thought he was at a crossroads between life and death while dreaming. I thought that if King Jeongjo wakes up in his dream he was still in the palace, and if he couldn't wake up it would lead to death. I thought that they can only achieve their desires as an ordinary man and woman in dream," she said, showing tears with overwhelming emotions.

Deok-im lost children and friends, suffered from emptiness, and died of illness at the early age of 34. Lee Se-young said, "I tried my best not to cry while filming Deok-im." While preparing, I cried so much that I filled the tumbler with ice and put a spoon on my eyes. When asked what she wanted to say to Deok-im, saying, "I cried every time I read the script at home. Deok-im do what you want to do. Be happy," she said.

Lee Se-young also showed a sad emotions of Deok-im in an interview. When asked if "The Red Sleeves" was a work that particularly stimulated her tear glands, she said, "I usually don't have much tears. I cry only when I see the work. I am very immersed in the character of this work, so I cry whenever I talk about this character. I think it will remain the same over time. This work stimulates my tear glands a lot. The original and the drama are so heartbreaking and desperate," she said.

Meanwhile, Lee Se-young also became real friends with Lee Min-ji (Kim Bok-yeon), Ha Yu-ri (Bae Kyung-hee), and Lee Eun-sam (Son Young-hee), who played together in "The Red Sleeves." Lee Se-young said, "Gungnyeos"  (Court Ladies) is a little more special because we acted in a closer relationships than our family. We were close even though there was 7 years age gap between me and actor Ha Yulri. In the drama, we were so close that our relationship in reality was also precious," she said.

"Actually, 'Gungnyeos' is the first time that four women have actually gathered. There is also a separate chat room. As a "court ladies" group, she named it "we must always be together." We created a sports club and "Gungnyeos" actually became like "Gungnyeos" "I decided to do not only climbing but also other things together," she said with a smile.

"The Red Sleeve" Lee Seyoung, "Perfect ending. It was so sad that I cried lot." [X's interview 1]

Deok-im met Lee San (Lee Junho) in the afterlife. Lee San, who remained next to Deok-im as a husband, not a king, shed tears, saying, "Please love me." Deok-im responded with a kiss. The two completed their love with ordinary husbands and wife. Thus, the moment soon became eternity.

"It ended with the same scene with the same narration as the original work. I was so sad while reading the original, but the lingering effect lasted for a long time during the last shoot. When I saw the teaser poster saying, "The moment soon became eternity" I thought our ending would go like that, and there was a part that I calculated when I acted another scene. I was so sad that I cried a lot while reading the script. I expected it, but it was written better than that, so I was curious about how the scene would be shoot, but everyone was crying since the rehearsal and I cried. I had to express it happily without implying that Deok-im had died, but it was hard when I filmed because I was crying so much."

It was a Sappy (Sad+Happy) ending that left a strong lingering and touching feeling. Lee Se-young was satisfied, calling it a "perfect ending."

"Deok-im is already dead, and if Jeongjo leaves the door, he will returns to reality and wakes up again, and if he doesn't open the door, he will enjoys a happy time with Deok-im." In a way, both are dead, so it's sad. But Lee San, which was not achieved in reality, completely put down the weight of the king and Deok-im forgot the pain, so I think it's a happy ending because the two of them reunited happily. The ending was so good. It was so good to see the original and script, and I think it came out beautifully in the video. "It was a perfect ending."

"The king loved the court lady. But did the court lady love the king? This question was written in the synopsis. It was so fresh and shocking. It deals with the court lady's mind that no one is curious about, and it also appears in the scene with Crown Prince's Lecturer (Kang Hoon) and me. When I said, "Aren't you curious about my heart?" he replied, "No one is curious about the court lady's heart," that scene touched me. I was very moved because it focused on expressing the court lady's heart that no one was curious about. When I read the original, I thought there would be a variety of interpretations and it would be fun for people to keep watching while wondering."

The image of Court Lady Deok-im who continue to refuse the favor of Lee San and trying to live independently left an impression for me.

"Even though I'm living in modern world, I keep wondering how I could have refused in such a situation. I don't think I can do that, so I think it was amazing."

"There's not much I can do on my own after I become a concubine. Even if I had children, the child will be the Queen's child and will be higher on his own. There is a scene where I ask Seo Sang-gung Mama-nim (Jang Hye-jin) if it will be a son, he will be the son of the Queen and if it will be a daughter, she can be by my side. I thought its like a feeling of limbs cutting off bit by bit."

Lee Se-young "Jinttobaegi promise was rash, it's a supply without demand" [X's Interview 2]

"Deok-im refused because of other realistic aspects even though she yearn for Jeongjo." If I were in that situation, I don't think there would be a big barrier in reality. If there is someone who confesses like that, of course, I will accept it, and I think I will be more direct to Jeongjo if I like it. Of course I will (I will accept it.) " (laughs)

"I don't think I'm as bold and great as Deok-im. When I think about it, it looks a little similar to the confident image when I was a court lady. It similar to a playful, lively, energetic Deok-im who wants to live a simple and long life. I think the synchronization rate is about 95%, except after the concubine. Deok-im is more courageous than me."

What if there is a situation where you have to worry between work, reality, and love like Deok-Im? Lee Se-young said without hesitation, "I don't think love that is not free is love"

"It's because Deok-im says this, but the times are different (now). I don't think love that interferes with my work is healthy love. If that's the case, I'll work. But I think work and love are separate and I aim for love that can embrace them together."

"One of the reasons for receiving so much love is Junho's sincere and attractive charming acting, he's such a good actor and friendly." I think that's why we have chemistry and we received loved. My favorite two-shot, I haven't been able to openly express my love for it. In episode 16, "Will you going say no to me again?" and "Will you let me go if I say no?"  that's why i like it. It was really nice. It was one of the few scenes, which even more heartbreaking and upsetting. The most regrettable scene was when I had to refuse numerous confessions and hide my feelings."

"I didn't have a lot of skinships." The episode where the kiss scene came out was very late. The kiss was at the ending of episode 14, but it was rarely show in the episode. I think it was awkward because we filmed too late after 6 months of no touch or skinships. I guess all the staff members are looking forward to it. "'Everyone, please go out because I have to do skinship" I hope everyone pretends to be fine as usual, but on that day, Team B was filming in another set and was watching our kissing scene. I was so ashamed and embarrassed."

I think there's a big misunderstanding about "Jintobaegi". I tried to match sillyness to "My House" as if Deok-im was dressed up as a concubine and dressed up as Jin-tto-baegi, but I also regret it because it seemed to be a rash remark that failed to keep Deok-im's dignity in "The Red Sleeve" and King Jeongjo. I've also received a lot of calls saying, "Deokim doesn't have to. I heard that it is a supply without demand. I will looked back on myself. I will learn the dance for "My House."

#LEESEYOUNG X's Interview 4

In Deok-im's (Lee Se-young) worsening condition, Kyung-hee (Ha Yul-ri) and Bok-yeon (Lee Min-ji) was desperate called and not Lee San (Lee Jun-ho). As a result, it was interpreted that the Deok-im was trying to say sorry for not keeping the promise.

""When Young-hee (Lee Eun-saem) was alive, they promise that, 'We must always be together.' Kyung-hee also made a promise when she was held in Gwanghan Palace by Deok-ro (Kang Hoon). After Young-hee dies, Kyung-hee and Bok-yeon, who say, "No one can go first," Deok-im ask, "What if someone break the promise?" and was answered "I don't know, anyway, no one can't break it." As to this, I couldn't keep my promise, I asked them to call the court ladies who missed me the most and were most precious. Deok-im, Kyung-hee and Bok-yeon will be able to meet again after they die. Four of us can meet together in the afterlife. I've loved San. That's what i can do."

The sweet "dumpling soup scene" of Deok-im and Lee San was also made on the spot. Lee Se-young said, "I didn't know the dumpling soup episode would be so long as an ad-lib. "I think I filmed it like that to show a happy and sweet side," she said. + I didn't know that all the scenes where we're laughing would be aired to the point where my shoulders were also moving. We filmed a scene where we met on the afterlife and a scene of a fun memory during our lifetime, it was hard to hold back our laughter (behind). (bit.ly/3HZApAT)

In the beginning, there was an additional cut in the episode where I was ask to write a letter of apology. When I was ordered to rewrite the first, second, and third times, I thought about how to develop the stages of anger by giving levels to my facial expressions, as well as ths filling water in ink jar.

In MBC drama "Kairos," Lee Se-young said in an interview with xports News, "I always try to show a different side." What kind of new appearance will she show after "The Red Sleeve?"

"The next drama isn't a historical drama, right?" (Laugh) I don't know, but of course, I try to do other works and characters. They look similar, but they're all different. I don't care much about that, but I still look for works to show different characters in terms of acting even it's all me. I don't know what it will be like, but I think it'd be nice to do a romantic comedy."

Lee Se-young confessed, "I think what (the viewer) wants to see rather than what I want to show."

"I didn't expect this, but I want to do a person or work that would be so fun or attractive." When I became an adult, I always thought that I wanted to be a trusted actor. I think it would be an honor to have that title. Since I am an actor, I want to be an actor who can do my job well, can give trust and be trusted enough. I want to be a good actor."

Now that the drama is over, I want to meet my family and few friends. In the next work, I hope to try a romantic comedy genre that laughs a lot. I actually got promoted in the company (Prain TPC). From manager to team leader. MBC CEO promised to send all staff overseas travel vacations if the ratings exceed 15%, I tried to not be too disappointed even if we can't leave due to COVID-19. I haven't had a chance, so I wasn't able to travel abroad comfortably, eventhough I want to go out.

(bit.ly/3HZApAT)

- What was the most memorable feedback from "The Red Sleeve"?

▶ Viewers called it "Sandeok Couple" from Deok-im and Lee San. Thank you for making such a couple nickname. Deok-im isn't just court lady. There was a scene where the king and the court lady had a love quarrel, and it was so rude that I wondered if Deok-im could be like this. Nevertheless, I tried to act in an arrogant way. Just as I felt walking on thin ice, viewers seem to have felt it too.(Laugh) My acquaintances usually monitor my work and said that they've watched and enjoyed it, but after this work, they asked me directly. "What's going on?" I was so happy that Cha Seung-won sunbaenim sent me a message saying, "You've done so well"

How did you try to show Deok-im's process of becoming a concubine from a court lady to Uibin Seong?

▶ It's a story that has been dealt with several times, but the key to this work was how to show it well from my point of view. In the first part, I tried to show a funny image of Deok-im, as I said in the line, "Are you running wild like a goof in the palace?" I wanted to show my favorite aspects such as Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, and Joo Seong-chi.(laughs)

-How did you try to express the entire life of Deok-im?

▶ Deok-im died at the age of 34. I thought about how to express myself in a middle age. I also thought about how to show this person's life history. When I thought about it, I tried to be more lively, free, playful, and proud of my work. Deok-im's thought was how she would protect the crown prince until he became king, but later I tried to express the emptiness, loneliness, and longing when he asked me to be a concubine. The process of raising Deok-im's image was not shown, but it showed the loss of children. From the time Wolhye eonnie (Ji Eun) died, I felt a little disappointed. I was upset by showing that I couldn't do anything.

- After becoming a concubine, Deok-im's appearance gained sympathy from married female viewers on the topic of career interruption.

▶ I didn't know i was sympathized in terms of career interruption. It must have been like a bird trapped in a cage after Deok-im became a concubine, unable to do anything and meet people. From what I've heard, it seems to be true.

- Did you already know that Deok-im dies in the ending of "The Red Sleeve"?

▶It started when I heard that the ending would be similar to the original work. When I saw the teaser poster saying, "The moment soon became eternity" i already predicted the ending. I couldn't stop crying the whole time.

- What's your favorite scene in "The Red Sleeve"

▶ My favorite scene was the ending scene of the entire drama. Next is the ending of episode 5 where Deok-im says, "I will protect you until the end of my life."

-How do you feel about acting with Lee Deok-hwa (Yeongjo) and Jang Hye-jin (Court Lady Seo)?

▶ I and Lee Deok-hwa sunbaenim acted together in "The Best Hit". Lee Deok-hwa always admires me, saying, "That's how you do it." I filmed while learning whether I could be like that. I had fun since the beginning and middle of the filming with Court Lady Seo, and later, I cried just by making eye contact. Comfort and kind words eased and cheered me up.

-You debuted in 1997 SBS drama "Brothers' River" and has already been acting for 25 years. What was your thought when trying to act?

▶ I'm acting while looking forward to the next 50 years. I'm so happy now and sometimes excited, but I try not to be too happy. People around me tell me to enjoy it. However, I think there is a long way to go, so I want to go thin and long like a simple dream of Deok-im. I want to go my way as a special actor in it.

-There are still many things you want to show in other genres besides historical dramas.

▶ I think my mental strength comes out of my physical strength and I want to have various experiences. If I challenge myself a little more diversely when I am still young, I think I will have no regrets even when I get older. I try to continue my efforts to survive as much as possible.

-bit.ly/3n5KhB2

"Regardless of the good and bad work, ratings are not something we (actors and production staff) can do. There was a choice of viewers, a good script, and the director directed the script so well. On top of that, I think it was possible because the actors' teamwork and acting were good," Lee Se-young said.

In this work, Lee Se-young learned calligraphy and etiquette to play as Deok-im. "In the case of etiquette, I learn new things and some of it was learned from my previous work. I also learned tea ceremony. Whether it is Deok-im or not in the drama (must learn), the king does not have to learn tea ceremony because a person with a low status in the drama was the one who serves. The most important thing was calligraphy. I took calligraphy classes several hours a week before the filming starts.

"Tea ceremony became my hobby. I like tea ceremony so much that there is even tea instructor. But she said, "It's all wrong." (Laughs) So I learned hard. In the case of calligraphy, it was important to practice because you can forget it quickly if you don't review it at home. No matter how much you practice, you can't keep up with the teacher who's a master in writing. However, since Deok-im's transcription remains in history, I made a lot of observations to express an outlook familiar with writing.“

"So far, I haven't had many opportunities to work with so many actors and meet various characters in a drama. However, in this work, there are scenes where I worked with my seniors, acted with my peers, and filmed with my teacher, the court lady. Since there were various differences in status among different actors in the drama, I thought a lot about how to express it while changing the acting as the drama unfolded. In the case of Lee Deok-hwa, I think there are so many parts I learned while filming with him that I appreciate his acting when I don't say lines.“

(The Red Sleeve dumpling scene)

"The dumpling skin was thick and the insides are burst. Since then, I haven't been making dumplings. (Laugh) In fact, I think my cooking skills are also the same. It's called "evenness." I don't think there's anything like that. Following the recipe, the taste is constant, but it doesn't seem delicious.“

"I appeared in the drama 'The Best Hit', a 16 episode romantic comedy. Next time, I want to try again as the main character of a romantic comedy in a weekend drama. It would be great to work with Lee Deok-hwa again. I really want to work with actor Oh Jung-se and actor Ryu Seung-ryong. And I always hope to work with IU. It would be great if I could act with IU in a romance drama. I'm always interested and supports her new album.“ -Lee Se-young

"I ate three meals a day, ate two slices of cheesecake, and always prepared mayonnaise and sprinkled it on kimbap. When I went home, I ate a late-night snack and slept right away, but I lost weight again due to the filming schedule. I had no choice but to be wary of the mature point while making my makeup as light as possible."

"While filming with the "Gungnyeos", we ate and made a small group. There's thing we want to experience, but we don't think we can do alone. But it's not embarrassing to only have 4 people going to learn swimming or climbing. Even during the shoot, I couldn't stop laughing because we were all really close. Jang Hye-jin is caring as her role in the drama. She held my hand at the scene making my heart warm. In the second half, even if I didn't say anything, I fell in love with it to the point of crying. It's beautiful in real life, too. Kang Mal-geum also cares for me a lot and only said good things, so I felt reassured."

-The unique clear pronunciation and articulation were also impressive. Did you pay special attention to anything?

▶ Originally, I intended to expressed it according to its word when the word was expressed differently in the script, . In order to effectively convey the meaning of the word, I also searched for long and short sounds. Each line tried to revive the meaning of the words. I paid attention to that part because the seniors in historical dramas seemed to speak exquisitely. When I am with my colleagues, I spoke comfortably, but I tried to be a little more sophisticate and articulate my pronunciation to the queen or people in higher position. I tried to talk and breathe comfortably to those close to me.

-Winning the Rookie of the Year Award at the 2017 Baeksang Awards, Female Excellence Award at the 2019 SBS Drama Awards, and the Top Female Excellence Award at the 2021 MBC Drama Awards, proving her skills by going up one notch every 2 years. Did you wish for Excellence Award?

▶ Thank you just for saying that. I don't know what to say, I'm still too lacking, and I'm on my way to achieved that part. It would be great to receive the grand prize (Daesang) in 20 years. I want to receive the Best Supporting Actress Award while acting for a long time. There are a lot of people with long careers, but there are people who give big impact even if it's small too, so I think it would be an honor to receive Best Supporting Actress Award, I will work hard towards that time.

- What does "The Red Sleeve" mean to Lee Se-young?

▶ It's not only the work that I loved, but also the work that I received so much love. I think it was a heartwarming work that I was able to film excitedly it and finish it beautifully until the end. I am proud of the fact that I have achieved a successful ending. I'm so happy that the viewers love it so much and the ratings came out well. I love it so much that I am afraid. I should move on towards the next step again.

- "The Red Sleeve" started with a rating of 5% and hit the highest rating of 17.4% was impressive. What did you feel when you saw the ratings? How is the preparation going for the promise for ratings?

▶ Ratings is not part that go as I want, and I hope it comes out well, but I didn't expect much. Many people gave interest and love, so I gained strength, worked harder, and was happy while filming. The figure was really like a dream. It may not be like this work every time, but I thought it would be nice to work hard and meet this kind of project (again). I'm looking forward on how to fulfill my promise and I think I should be given a chance. We will make sure that we finish gracefully and not harm the dignity of Deok-im and King Jeongjo.

Lee Se-young also recalled her romance performance with Lee Junho, who played as Lee San.

"I'm nervous that I'll make a mistake because there's no so much skinship and kissing scene," she said adding, "I was nervous because it's been a long time since filming a kissing scene." She also told a pleasant behind-the-scenes story that she made a toast of mouthwash with Lee Junho  before filming.

As a whole the historical dramas of Lee Se-young was the most dazzling of all. With the success of tvN's "The Crowned Clown" in 2019 and MBC's "The Red Sleeve" in 2021, Lee Se-young proudly became the "Historical Drama Queen." Everything about Lee Se-young was perfect for historical dramas. Her straight forehead, nose line, and big clear eyes completed the visual that shines even in short hair of a historical drama, and her delicate acting that expresses emotions only with extraordinary vocalization, pronunciation, and eyes showed perfect acting skills for historical dramas. Now, Lee Se-young's historical drama has become a "trustworthy" genre.

▲ I don't think it would have been easy to show the narrative of Deok-im who loved San only with eyes or facial expressions.

If I hadn't organized myself, it would have been very complicated and difficult. Since I roughly know how the situation goes, I acted after setting up a change in my feelings about where Deok-im realized her feelings for San. At the same time, I tried not to reveal what I like too clearly. In episode 15, I tried to act with my eyes saying, "I can't tell you, but I love you, but please understand me that I have no choice but to refuse," and "I can't hold you, but don't let me go."

▲ You have been working nonstop every year since your debut, what is the driving force behind your acting?

Everyone in all jobs works except for holidays, right? Since this is my job, I think I can continue to do it. Recently, I realized while watching soccer, rather than not being able to play as a substitute for a prestigious club, I think you have to keep playing to get a chance to go back up without losing your skills. My job is acting, and of course, it would be nice to choose a good work, but I don't think it goes like that constantly. It's important to keep going, I think that was the driving force.
